300 Channels and Nothing On….

Thoughts From the Coffee Table: We interrupt your regularly scheduled programing to bring you…nothing.

Over the past few years I have incorporated meditation to my daily routine. The impact on my productivity, stress, sleep and more has been astounding. I can’t even fathom life without it. 

Meditation has allowed me to hit the pause button. I step out of my head and into my mind. I find clarity.

If you are as old as me, you remember a day without 24 hour television programming. Somewhere around 2am the screen would show a series of colored bars or perhaps a picture of the American flag waving in the breeze, accompanied by a never-ending patriotic musical tribute. And it stayed like that until 5am.

Yesterday I was lazy. Gloriously lazy. Sit on the couch and watch Hallmark movies all day kind of lazy.

At one point, my screen did this. It was like coming out of a fugue. A meditation for my television. And it immediately brought me to focus.

I am not opposed to a lazy day. And I am not opposed to binge-watching a guilty pleasure. As long as it is the exception, and not the rule, that is.

And although I finished that movie after the brief interruption, I then turned off the TV.

The quiet in the house was deafening. 

And glorious.

And full of clarity.
