Thoughts From the Coffee Table: With all the bad news, I feel like I need a hard hat. I limit my news exposure now. It is too overwhelming. I control what I can. My personal space. My attitude. My mental health. My family began the coolest thing! Each day one person gives a fitness challenge to the family. 50 squats. 50 chair dips (ouch). 102 jumping jacks plus 15 minutes of reading. Each challenge keeps us connected despite our physical distances. It gives us a reason each day to laugh, smile and be thankful. To control what we can. It is creative and inventive. Controlling what I can has also lead to greater clarity and creativity for my company, and I see examples of this everywhere I look now. No longer sure of what the future holds, people are finding ways to keep their businesses going in creative and innovative ways. Food wholesalers who used to only supply restaurants are now finding DTC channels they never considered. An arcade in Portland began delivering machines to homes for a monthly fee. A museum is creating family art project boxes. Maybe instead of hard hats, we need new glasses. The world will look very different when this is over. Many of these hail Mary’s may be the best new business strategy of tomorrow. I can’t wait to see what it looks like.
