I have just finished reading Michael Sherlock's book and I am absolutely buzzing to tell you more! I had been a manager in training for a little over a year before I took on my current role as general manager, and Michael's message resonated with me from the start. I must admit I am similar to the book's character Maria in the way that I assumed because people have always liked working with and for me, that I was developing them in a way that was highly engaging. While I may preach the notion of taking the time to answer a question with a question, reading this book helped me recognize that I am not always practicing that method on a daily basis (and if we are only doing something occasionally, does it ever truly change how things are done?). I have never been so engaged by a book that is meant to be motivational and to teach a type of leadership strategy. So insightful!

Finally, Michael Sherlock's story deals with the issues of personal confidence and vulnerability that many leaders feel. Can I do it? Will my people listen? Can I get out from under my own shadow? The book describes the necessary transition from executing everything directly to empowering people to find and execute their own solutions. As the saying goes, many hands make the work seem light. This book gets right to that point.

I love this book and the wonderful way the author used storytelling to illustrate the important concepts in the book. It is such a quick read and had so many ah-ha moments - mainly ideas that had been percolating in my head but I had never thought it through so specifically. When I've had a great customer experience I try to figure out what worked - this book gave great story-based examples that will help me make better observations to learn from in real life. I highly recommend everyone reads it!

I couldn't put this book down. Whether you are in a sales role, customer service, entry level leadership, or seasoned leadership, you will learn something new! Michael not only shares her own wealth of knowledge, but she also shares better business practices from her personal experiences with people in the sales and service industry. Michael's "common sense" style hooked me early on. You'll feel the need to take notes, and you will be excited to implement fresh ideas!
